ഉമർ(റ)ന്റെ ഇസ്‌ലാമാശ്ലേഷണത്തിന്റെ സന്ദർഭത്തെ കുറിച്ച് വിവിധങ്ങളായ വിശദീകരണങ്ങളുണ്ട്. അദ്ദേഹം സ്വന്തം തന്നെ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന ഒരു നിവേദനം ഇങ്ങനെ വായിക്കാം. പരിചാരകനായ അസ്‌ലമിനോട് ചോദിച്ചു. എന്റെ ഇസ്‌ലാം സ്വീകരണത്തെ കുറിച്ച് ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു തരട്ടയോ? അസ്‌ലം പറഞ്ഞു, അതെ. അവിടുന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു തുടങ്ങി. ഒരു ദിവസം ഞാൻ അബൂജഹലിനും ശൈബതിനും ഒപ്പമിരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അപ്പോൾ അബൂജഹൽ പറഞ്ഞു. അല്ലയോ ഖുറൈശികളേ മുഹമ്മദ് ﷺ നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവങ്ങളെ നിരാകരിക്കുന്നു. സഹിഷ്ണുതയെ വിഢിത്തമായി കാണുന്നു. മുൻഗാമികൾ നരകാവകാശികളാണെന്ന് വാദിക്കുന്നു. അത് കൊണ്ട് മുഹമ്മദ് ﷺ നെ ആരെങ്കിലും വകവരുത്തിയാൽ അവർക്ക് കറുത്തതും വെളുത്തതുമായ നൂറ് ഒട്ടകങ്ങളും ആയിരം ഊഖിയ വെള്ളിയും നൽകാം. ആവനാഴിയിൽ അമ്പും നിറച്ച് വാളും ഊരിപ്പിടിച്ച് ഞാൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടു. വഴിമധ്യേ ഒരു സംഘം ആളുകൾ കൂടിനിൽക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടു. അവർ ഒരു മൃഗത്തെ അറുക്കാനൊരുങ്ങുകയാണ്. അൽപനേരം ഞാനവിടെ നോക്കി നിന്നു. അതാ നടുവിൽ നിന്നൊരു സന്ദേശം കേൾക്കുന്നു. അല്ലാഹുവിലേക്ക് ക്ഷണിക്കുന്ന പുണ്യ പുരുഷനെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കൂ എന്നാണ് സന്ദേശത്തിന്റെ ഉള്ളടക്കം. അപ്പോൾ ഞാനാലോചിച്ചു ഇത് എന്നെ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുള്ള സന്ദേശമാണല്ലോ! ഞാൻ മുന്നോട്ട് സഞ്ചരിച്ചു. അപ്പോഴതാ ഒരാട്ടിൻ പറ്റം. അവിടെ നിന്നും ഒരു കവിതാ സന്ദേശം കേൾക്കുന്നു. അതിന്റെയും ആശയം ഏകനായ അല്ലാഹുവിനെ മാത്രം ആരാധിക്കുക എന്ന്. മടിയേതും കൂടാതെ ഇസ്‌ലാമിലേക്ക് വരൂ എന്ന ആശയത്തിലാണ് കവിത അവസാനിക്കുന്നത്. അപ്പോഴും ഞാൻ ചിന്തിച്ചു ഇത് എന്നെയാണല്ലോ ലക്ഷ്യം വെക്കുന്നത്.
മറ്റൊരു നിവേദനത്തിൽ ഇങ്ങനെ വായിക്കാം. ഉമർ(റ) ഊരിപ്പിടിച്ച വാളുമായി മുന്നോട്ട് ഗമിച്ചു. വഴിയിൽ വെച്ച് നുഐം ബിൻ അബ്ദില്ലാഹ് അന്നഹ്ഹാമിനെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടി. അദ്ദേഹം സത്യവിശ്വാസം സ്വീകരിച്ച് സ്വകാര്യമാക്കി വെച്ച ആളായിരുന്നു. ഉമറി(റ)നോടദ്ദേഹം ചോദിച്ചു. എങ്ങോട്ടാണ് യാത്ര? ഉമർ(റ) പറയുന്നു. ഞാനദ്ദേഹത്തോട് പറഞ്ഞു, ഞാനാ 'സാബിഈ' യെ അഥവാ പ്രവാചകനെ തേടിപ്പോവുകയാണ്. നമ്മുടെ ദൈവങ്ങളെ നിരാകരിച്ച് മതത്തെ വിമർശിക്കുന്ന ആ പ്രവാചക ﷺ നെ വധിക്കാൻ പോവുകയാണ്. നുഐം എന്നോട് പറഞ്ഞു, നിങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളെ തന്നെ വഞ്ചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. നിങ്ങൾ അങ്ങനെയൊരു കൊലപാതകം നടത്തിയാൽ അബ്ദുമനാഫ് കുടുംബം നിങ്ങളെ ഈ ഭൂമുഖത്ത് നടക്കാൻ അനുവദിക്കുമോ? അല്ലാ നിങ്ങളുടെ വീട്ടിലെക്കാര്യം ആദ്യം നിങ്ങൾ നേരെയാക്കുന്നില്ലേ? എന്റെ ഏത് വീട്ടിൽ? ഞാൻ ചോദിച്ചു. നുഐം പറഞ്ഞു, നിങ്ങളുടെ അമ്മാവന്റെ മകനും അളിയനുമായ സഈദു ബിൻ സൈദും സഹോദരി ഫാത്വിമയും. അവർ മുസ്ലിംകളായി പ്രവാചക ﷺ നെ അനുകരിക്കുന്നു. ആദ്യം അവരെ ശരിപ്പെടുത്തൂ. നുഐം ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തത് ഉമറിനെ മുത്ത് നബി ﷺ യിൽ നിന്ന് വഴിതിരിച്ചു വിടാനായിരുന്നു. ഞാൻ നേരേ സഹോദരിയുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചു.
അന്ന് പ്രവാചകൻ ﷺ ചെയ്തിരുന്ന ഒരു രീതിയുണ്ട്. സാധുക്കളായ ആരെങ്കിലും വിശ്വാസം സ്വീകരിച്ചാൽ അവരെ കഴിവുള്ളവരുമായി സ്വകാര്യമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തും. അവർ പാവങ്ങൾക്ക് വേണ്ടത് നൽകും. അപ്രകാരം രണ്ട് വിശ്വാസികളുടെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്തം സഈദി(റ)ന്റെ പക്കലായിരുന്നു. അതിൽ ഒരാൾ ഖബ്ബാബ് ബിൻ അൽ അറത്ത്(റ) ആയിരുന്നു.
ഉമർ കോപാകുലനായി സഹോദരിയുടെ വീടിനടുത്തെത്തി. അകത്ത് നിന്ന് ഖുർആൻ പാരായണം കേൾക്കുന്നു. പെട്ടെന്ന് വാതിൽ തുറക്കാനും ഖബ്ബാബ്(റ) വീട്ടിൽ എവിടെയോ ഒളിച്ചു. ഖുർആനിലെ ത്വാഹാ അധ്യായം പകർത്തിയ ഫലകം ഫാത്വിമ(റ) ഒളിപ്പിച്ചു വച്ചു. ഉമർ ചോദിച്ചു, ഞാൻ കേട്ടുകൊണ്ട് വന്ന മന്ത്രം എന്താണ്? അവർ ചോദിച്ചു, എന്താണ് നിങ്ങൾ കേട്ടത്. ഒന്നുമില്ലല്ലോ! ആഹാ! ഒന്നുമില്ലന്നോ. നിങ്ങൾ രണ്ടു പേരും മുഹമ്മദി ﷺ നെ പിൻപറ്റിയ കാര്യം ഞാനറിഞ്ഞു കഴിഞ്ഞു. എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് ഉമർ സഈദി(റ)നെ കടന്നു പിടിച്ചു.

There are opinions that Umar is the fortieth person among those who embraced Islam, or he is the fortieth 'man', or he is the most prominent among them.
There are various explanations about the context of Umar's conversion to Islam. Once Umar(R) asked Aslam, the attendant "Should I tell you about my conversion to Islam?" Aslam said yes. He then began to say. One day I was with Abu Jahl and Shaybat. Then Abu Jahl said, "O Quraish, Muhammadﷺ rejects your gods. He sees our tolerance as foolishness. Argues that our predecessors are the inhabitants of the Hell. If anyone can kill Muhammad(ﷺ), then we will give them hundred camels, black and white, and a thousand coins of silver. I set out with my quiver loaded with arrows and my sword drawn. On the way I saw a group of people gathering. They are about to slaughter an animal. I looked there for a while. A message is heard from the middle. The content of the message is 'to listen to the pious man who invites to Allah'. Then I thought this is a message meant for me! I moved on. Then there was a herd of sheep.Heard a poetic message from there also. It's idea is to worship only Allah. The poem ends with the idea to come to Islam without hesitation. Even then I thought that this is meant for me.
In yet another report can read as follows. Umar proceeded with his drawn sword. On the way, he met Nu'aim bin Abdillah Al Nahham. He was a person who accepted Islam and kept it secret. He asked Umar. Where are you going? Umar says. I said him, I am going to see the 'Sabiee' or the Prophet ﷺ ; to kill that prophet[ﷺ] who rejects our gods and criticizes our religion . Nuaim told me. You have deceived yourselves. If you commit such a murder, will the Abdu Manaf family allow you to walk on this earth? Oh, don't you get your house straight first? Which of my house?!. I asked. Nuaim said. Your uncle's son and brother-in-law,Saeed bin Zaid and your sister Fathima. They follow the Prophet ﷺ as Muslims. Correct them first. (Nuaim did this to divert Umar from the Prophet ﷺ.) I went straight back to my sister's house.
There is a method that the Prophet ﷺ used to do that day. If a poor righteous person accepts the faith, he will be secretly associated with a well to do man .He will give the poor all that he needs.Thus, the responsibility of two believers was with Saeed. Among them was Khabbab bin Al-Arat.
Umar got angry and went to his sister's house. He heard the holy Quran recitation from inside. Khabbab hid somewhere in the house just after the door opened. Fathima concealed the piece on which the Twaha chapter of the holy Qur'an was written. Umar asked what is the chanting I heard just before entering here. They asked ; What did you hear? Nothing! Oh nothing. I already knew that both of you followed Muhammad ﷺ. Saying that, Umar caught Saeed.
